BaseballScorer Support

Last updated: April 2026

Thanks for using BaseballScorer! This page covers common questions and how to reach me if you run into a problem.

Contact

For bug reports, feature requests, or questions, email: mike@theyawns.com

I try to respond within a few days. Please include:

  • What device you were using (iPad, iPhone, or Mac)
  • What version of iOS / iPadOS you’re running
  • A brief description of what you were trying to do and what happened

Screenshots are always helpful.

Getting Started

How do I score my first game? Tap Practice on the home screen. It loads a real MLB game (Athletics at Braves) with step-by-step instructions telling you what to tap at each point. It’s the fastest way to learn both the app and baseball scoring conventions.

I want to see the full tutorial again. Tap the ? button in the top-right of the home screen to reopen the introductory tutorial at any time.

How do I score a live MLB game? Tap any game on the home screen. If the lineups are available (usually 1-2 hours before first pitch), the app loads them automatically and you can start scoring immediately. If lineups aren’t posted yet, you can pick players from the roster manually.

Scoring

How do I undo a mistake? Tap the button in the line score row at the top, then Undo Last At-Bat. This reverses the most recent play.

How do I fix an at-bat that wasn’t the last one? Tap any completed at-bat card in the inning summary to enter review mode, then tap Edit Scoring at the top. You can re-score it with any result.

How do I record a pinch hitter or pinch runner?

  • Pinch hitter: tap the batter’s name area in the scoring view, then pick a replacement from the roster.
  • Pinch runner: tap the runner on the diamond, then choose Pinch Runner from the menu.
  • The app will prompt you to assign their defensive position at the end of the half-inning.

How do I record a double play? Tap Ground Out, then tap each fielder in the sequence (e.g., 6, 4, 3 for a 6-4-3 DP). Tap Confirm. Both runners are automatically marked out and the notation shows “DP”.

The pitch buttons show K, Kc — what’s the difference?

  • K = swinging strikeout (batter swung and missed for strike 3)
  • Kc = called strikeout (strike 3 was called by the umpire; traditionally shown as a backwards K on a scorecard)

I don’t want to track pitch-by-pitch. Tap the Tracking toggle in the scoring view. When tracking is off, you can record outcomes directly (K, BB, In Play, etc.) without counting balls and strikes.

Live MLB Data

Why are some plays missing from a live game? The app uses MLB’s public Stats API, which updates as games progress but isn’t instantaneous. If you’re scoring a live game and notice a gap, wait a minute and try Auto-fill missed plays (tap an incomplete at-bat card in the inning summary).

My favorite team’s game isn’t showing up. Check that the team is selected in your favorites. If it is, the game should appear in the “Your Teams” section at the top of the home screen. Games not involving your favorite teams appear under “Other Games Today”.

The roster shows a player who wasn’t in this game / is missing a player who was. Rosters are currently loaded fresh from MLB each time you start a game, so players who’ve been traded or called up since the game date may be inaccurate for historical games. Support for date-accurate rosters is on the roadmap.

Data & Privacy

Where is my game data stored? Everything you score is stored locally on your device. Nothing syncs to a cloud service. Deleting the app removes all stored games.

Do you collect any data about me? No. BaseballScorer does not collect analytics, does not use tracking, and does not transmit any personal data. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I back up my games? Because game data is stored locally, it’s included in your iCloud device backup automatically (as part of the standard iOS backup). There is no in-app export feature yet.

Feedback & Feature Requests

BaseballScorer is actively being developed. If there’s a feature you’d like to see — better support for non-MLB games, detailed pitch tracking, stat exports, anything else — please let me know at mike@theyawns.com.

Bug reports are especially appreciated. Include the specific play or action that triggered the problem and I’ll take a look.
